This week I’m thinking about…

Shoulder seasons. To be honest, I’ve never used them to their full potential. I get overly optimistic in the spring, starting things too early. And then I’m so busy in the summer that I often miss the window to start seeds for late harvests. And even when I do get a few late fall crops growing, it gets too cold outside to enjoy tending to them.

Not this year! I’m planning my whole year up front so I never have to think harder than completing my garden task checklist each week. And as for being cold in the fall, I’ll keep trying to embrace what each season offers. Instead of hiding away indoors, I’ll bundle up, get out there, and enjoy the crisp fall air and all the fresh food I’ll have as a result.

I think this is another way that choosing to rest this winter is paying off. I feel ready to take on more than usual in the growing season because no matter how busy it gets, I know I can count on a chance to slow down, rest, and recover again next winter.
