Hi, I’m Bridgette,

I’ve been excited about growing food for as long as I can remember.

From a humble vegetable patch in my parent’s yard, I took my passion for edible gardening to Dalhousie University, where I received a degree in Environment, Sustainability, and Society with a focus on organic agriculture.

In 2018, I moved to Southern Ontario where I began working as a vegetable gardening specialist and the organic program supervisor for a major Canadian garden seed distributor.

Throughout my career, I have witnessed rising interest in small-scale edible gardening. We may not have the space or time to cultivate the sprawling gardens of the past. Yet the natural human desire to grow beautiful, healthy food to feed our families and loved ones remains.

Balconies, windowsills, and rooftops are now the kitchen gardens of our generation. I began to see a need for resources that catered specifically to these new gardeners— so I created one. An environmentally responsible resource for aspiring vegetable gardeners who are in search of simple, yet comprehensive instruction of the highest quality. And now it’s here.

At Cottage Corners, you will learn everything you need to know about growing food. But for me, edible gardening is about more than just the food.

Stepping into our place in the ecosystem, as stewards of this beautiful earth, can bring a profound sense of purpose and belonging. I hope you find all this and more in your Cottage Corner. 💚

About Cottage Corners

We love a cottage vibe

To us, the word “cottage” evokes the sense of a slower pace. It’s a stronger connection with nature, family, and friends. It’s more self-sufficiency, good food, and a kind of elective scarcity. A softer, sweeter, simpler lifestyle for comfort-seekers.

Our ethos

We believe that Mother Nature is the boss. To the best of our abilities, we will always strive to work with her, not against her. That means we embrace “messy” gardens. We champion biodiversity. We celebrate local wildlife. And we slow down in winter.

We’re located in Canada

The conditions, crops, plant-out dates, pests and diseases we’ll cover are based on the average Canadian climate. We work in four distinct seasons. References to rules or regulations may not apply in other countries.

We’re here for you

We strive to be your best resource for small-scale edible gardening in Canada. If you notice a gap in our content, we want to hear about it. Our content is also inspired by you! Tag us in your posts on Instagram (@CottageCorners) and we’ll follow along.

What to expect in winter

Gardening is a year-round pursuit. Winter is first and foremost a season of rest. However, it’s also when we create our garden plans for the season ahead and acquire our seeds. It’s the beginning of the whole edible gardening cycle.

Bridgette’s cottage dream

“I love my apartment and the bustle of a city. But I grew up on the East Coast and I dream of spending my summers in a little oceanfront cottage on Prince Edward Island. For now, my Cottage Corner is where I can escape to that peaceful, dreamy feeling.”
